we planned, we cancelled, we planned and we postponed and at last we planned and we achieved. i don't know from how long we were planning to go on trekking, and at last the day came. it was on 26-12-08, that all the member of the team saptharshis met at Prashanth's place and started our journey towards KP(Kumara Parvatha). we started with eight in the team, but it was only seven who really were able to start the trek, and thats how the team got its name "saptharshis" . lemme have the honor of introducing the team, the rishi shresht Shri. Naveen, Shri Krishna kishor, Shri Arun kumar( saareee) Shri. Vinod, Shri. Prashant, Shri Shreesha k, and me Shri Karthik abraje.
So, we decided to go to kumara partvatha from kukke subrahmanya a temple town about 50 km from puttur a small town which takes an hour and a half to reach from the district headquarter Mangalore. The distance to KP from subrahmanya is 13 km, a route which will take you through the dense decidious forest with huge trees and beautiful picturesque.
we started our trekking from subrahmanya at around 12 noon after having a light dose of food. The team was upbeat and all were excited, m
ay be the year end factor had its own dose of thrill to add.(at least for me and Arun as we are from hardcore sales ) but the nature had something else planned for us, the first causality came, when Mr. Vishveshwar felt that the task ahead of us was somewhat difficult for him and he took the call of aborting his trek. so the team carried on without Mr. Vishveshwar, though the trek would have been more joyful in his company. the pace at which we moved was slow, everyone was conserving their energy, for the big next day. our aim was to cover a distance of 6 km on the first day so that we could reach Girigadde and halt( u will get accommodation and food here as there is a family the only family that has settled here) it took nearly 4 hours for us to reach girigadde.
The night was not the ordinary one, it was something special, special in the sense SPECIAL. no words in the dictionary can do justice when u like to describe the beauty of nature....this is what i feel all the time when i try to get myself lost in the wilderness of nature.
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
u no i had a strange feeling, though i never told this to any of my trek mates, actually i felt like not RETURNING.Just wanted to go on and on and on,with no landmarks, with no destination, with no goal no aim , nothing, my spiritual part, which was forcefully dumped at the core of my heart had actually got awaken...! Lemme come back to topic before i take u to a rolle
r coaster ride of my philosophy with no head and tail...i feel that's what is philosophy...so, back to square, it was indeed a chilled night, and the camp fire that we had put on,had to some extent helped us to keep ourselves w
arm, to add to it prashanth and kishor were kind enough to get tea for all. it was time for me to realise something again....u no sitting infront of fire with a mug of tea,,,,is INDEED PRICELESS.So, the night had fallen and everyone with every inch of their body begging for rest spread ourselves on the mat.
Mr.Punctual err i mean Mr.Sun was on time,we got fresh and started the biggest and longest day at 7 am. Seeing nature in the morning is so divine, so pure, so precious, we run all our life behind material benefits which we hardly take while we go,i would like to quote Shri OSHO here
"Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful. Everything is simply happy. Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance. Look at the flowers - for no reason. It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are."
the first halt was at mantapa, that we reached after a good one and a half hour walk and the water that we had carried was over by that time as the saying goes "you never know the worth of water till the well gets dry"and thank the LORD, as he created a fresh water spring over there. And it was time for us to relax and fill our belly and bottle with the sweetest purest creation of almighty "water". glucose packets were getting empty sooner that day, so we started again after a brief 10 minutes break, the path we were covering was testing, it was steep, it was rocky, and keeping our foot on the right place was difficult. so, the team moved on and on, there was less talk and more walk, perhaps everyone was challenged to the limits and everyone was fighting "himself" to move on.

we had covered a distance of 3.5 km and the time was 10 am so it nearly took us 3 hours, not a bad pace given the condition we were in. we had reached "battada rashi" which means a heap of paddy in local language. we were left with another 3.5 km to cover and on return full 13 km. Initial plan was to start the trek early so that we could reach the summit by around 11-11.30 but we were way behind the schedule. We needed to increase the pace, e
ven the mighty, ever bright sun was watching us with full attention, making us sweat profusely. Tarakasura gundi was the next spot and its around 1.5 km from here to the summit, a mad rush, anxiety and excitement took all of us, in a way helping us to forget the pain in the ankle, thighs, knees. so we were just at the foot of the last challenge, and that was to climb a 85 degree vertically standing gigantic rock..thought the challenge looked scary but it was rather an easy job that was done with precision.
"Greater the expectation greater the dis-appointment" but not applicable for nature.....! every time you come back nature has something new to offer. i had visited KP six years back but i felt as if i was seeing it for the first time. all were mesmerized at the scenic beauty. we offered our prayers to the God, at the small temple. Guru Naveen announced that he would be doing sudarshan kriya, and he dis appeared, and i wanted to know how is it to feel the nature, the pure air, the fragrance of flowers so just closed my eyes.
i felt so protected, so secure as if i was in the womb of my mother....that i had a sound little nap..... :)
Mother nature has given us so much that we cant repay in a life time, and so its our duty to visit our mother once in a while and show our gratitude towards her.
Nature's Child,
Karthik Abraje.
